Graceland Cemetery[edit]

In a very technical sense, the cemetery is actually in Uptown. But from an article writing standpoint does it make sense to keep it here? It seems like this district doesn't have a lot of sights otherwise. Although I think I remember reading that the Eastern entrance from the red line is now closed, so perhaps the main entrance is on the Lakeview side? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 20:38, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

bump Any interest in transplanting the cemetery to here? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 21:14, 13 November 2007 (EST)
I moved it from here to Uptown while I was working on the Uptown article. Once I got deep into the literature, I found that it's overwhelmingly considered to be in Uptown, and makes a nice match with the atmosphere/architecture of Uptown. The main entrance is close to Lakeview, but the vast majority of the cemetery itself would be in Uptown. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 21:22, 13 November 2007 (EST)

Bars[edit]

The 'Drink' section of this article is suddenly overstuffed. I edited it down to the bars that seem most compelling — here are the ones that got left out, in case anyone wants to advocate for them over one that remains. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 23:55, 10 May 2009 (EDT)

  • The Dugout Sports Bar and Grill, 950 W. Addison Ave. +1-630-917-5272. 11AM-1AM M-F; 11AM-2AM Sa-Su. Vampires will like the sunless basement location right under the Addison Red Line stop. Free peanuts.

Crowd is better-dressed twenty-somethings who are willing to wait in the perpetual line that forms outside most game days. Plenty of flat screens to catch every play.

Star?[edit]

Following the big addition and subsequent trim/organization of new Wrigleyville drink listings, this article is looking rather like a star to me. I don't know the area well, so I can't really judge completeness, but is there anything else needed here before a nomination (aside from the map update, of course). --(WT-en) Peter Talk 05:42, 20 May 2009 (EDT)

I don't believe so. The only area in which it was lacking was the Wrigleyville bar scene, and now that's a strong point. I'm confident the article covers the sights, restaurants, and the other bar scenes comprehensively. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 08:12, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
I've updated the map and added a few pictures (of varying quality) to fill out the page a bit. I think it's ready for a nomination. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 19:28, 13 June 2009 (EDT)
Actually, now that I've said that, I realize there is one thing on my mind. It seems like the music venues are split across "do" and "drink." What's the rationale for determining which goes where? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 19:30, 13 June 2009 (EDT)
"Would you go there regardless of whether there was a band you were interested in?" Definitely not for Metro and the Vic; Schuba's is closer, but still on that side of the line. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 17:15, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

Rancid nachos and date rape[edit]

Deleted for the second time the snide and inappropriate comment about rancid nachos and date rape. Unneccessary, insulting and just childish. —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) User:Allioop (talkcontribs)

No, what goes on at the likes of Barleycorn is unnecessary and just childish — Wikivoyage encourages lively writing, which is what that comment is. You've done a great job identifying the best bars in Wrigleyville, but there are some terrible ones, too. Clark Street isn't all sweetness and Cubs on a Saturday night. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 16:56, 23 May 2009 (EDT)
I put in a special request for a restoration of that snide comment, as I hate to see lively writing and blunt criticism whitewashed. FWIW, Wrigleyville is definitely not my scene, but friends and family who enjoy it thought the earlier uncompromisingly critical version [7] was hilarious. TimeOut Chicago liked Wikivoyage's [brutal honesty] as well. Of course, the original version was too critical to last, but I think the compromise version is a good one. A critical point of view (and alas, lively writing of any sort) becomes harder to maintain the more editors we have, but lets lean towards the prose that will keep readers chuckling. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:12, 23 May 2009 (EDT)

Closed listings[edit]

Also notable for their fried mozzarella sticks, which are huge enough that they must be ordered individually. $12-18.

Star nomination[edit]

Chicago/Lakeview-North Center[edit]

Now that we have a sufficiently huge amount of 'Drink' listings for every corner of this article (and plenty more in reserve on the Talk page), I believe it's ready for a star. It covers one of Chicago's top attractions, Wrigley Field, as well as several major theaters and music venues. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 17:26, 14 June 2009 (EDT)

  • Support. Looks very solid and it's very fun to read. But now for the nitpicking: Anthropologie and Gaymart don’t have hours; Lincoln Restaurant, Nookie's Tree, The Chicago Diner, and Que Rico! have no prices, the Century Shopping Centre isn't on the map, and I think Digital Network Solutions is labeled as Computer Network Source on the map. Other than that, looks great. (WT-en) PerryPlanet Talk 18:57, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
Thanks for the scrutiny. I've added the hours & prices. I just noticed the Computer Network Source name change today. (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 20:28, 14 June 2009 (EDT)
  • Support (surprise, surprise). If I had a problem with the article, I would have brought it up already. And I've updated the map. Great article from our resident ape, and a special thanks to Allison for pushing the drink section to star status. Unrelated, but I had a grand old time at Wrigley last Friday watching the Monopoly Man make a fool of himself. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 01:18, 15 June 2009 (EDT)
My, how time does fly. Last call on this one... (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 11:46, 28 June 2009 (EDT)
  • Support I only have one minor quibble - Music Box, shouldn't that read tickets or is that American slang for something? --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 17:54, 1 July 2009 (EDT)
"Ticker" is American slang for a heart...so, no, that was just a typo. Thanks for catching it! (WT-en) Gorilla Jones 18:28, 1 July 2009 (EDT)

Alternative banner for this article?[edit]

Banner currently used in this article
Suggested new alternative banner

I created a new alternative banner for this article (I initially created it first and foremost so that it would be used at the top of the parallel article in the Hebrew edition of Wikivoyage, yet I later decided to also suggest that the English Wikivoyage community would consider using it here as well). So, which banner do you prefer having at the top of this article? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 04:21, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wrigley Field? Yes, I think so - much more iconic. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:47, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The title will clash more with the Wrigley Field sign than it does with the flag now. Both are nice banners, the current one quite brilliant, but the placing of the rather long title has not been considered when making either, apparently. PrinceGloria (talk) 15:22, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. I made that banner for the Hebrew Wikivoyage where the title goes on the other side. Either way, following your comment I made a new banner in which the title does not clash with the Wrigley Field sign. Do you like this one better ? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 15:37, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is possibly the best you could do with the picture at hand, but I still find the effect clumsy - not that I don't appreciate your work, it is simply that this picture won't work as a banner here. PrinceGloria (talk) 16:13, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So you still prefer the old banner over this option? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 16:20, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I would PrinceGloria (talk) 16:54, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Never been to this part of Chicago, but I like the current banner better. It's more interesting to look at. Danapit (talk) 17:58, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the problem with the proposed banner is that once you add the title and ToC, the eye gets drawn away from the Wrigley Field sign and to the traffic light, which isn't very aesthetically pleasing. Definitely prefer the current one. PerryPlanet (talk) 22:06, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
