Corte (Corsican: Corti) is a commune in the Haute-Corse department of Corsica. It is the fourth-largest city in Corsica (after Ajaccio, Bastia, and Porto-Vecchio).

By car

National roads lead to Corte from Ajaccio and Bastia.

By train

Corte is also linked to Ajaccio, Bastia and Calvi by the Chemin de fer de la Corse (Corsican Railway), and is served by trains running between Ajaccio and Calvi, and Ajaccio and Bastia.

Corte's citadel

• 1 Corte citadel (A citadella). The citadel of Corte was the first of the seven Corsican citadels. It was the only one built inland and its three levels of defence make it an exceptional site in Europe. It was built in two stages, 350 years apart: in 1419, Vincentello d'lstria, built the castle, also called "Eagle's Nest", at the top of the rock overlooking the city. In 1769, under the orders of the Count of Vaux, French troops began the construction of the citadel.

• 3 University of Corsica Pasquale Paoli. This is a French university, based in Corte. It is under the Academy of Corsica.
