Fairfield County is a now-defunct county of Connecticut in the New York City metropolitan area, and is home to some of the wealthiest suburbs in the country.

Understand[edit]

Connecticut abolished its county governments in 1960, which led to problems in land use and infrastructure planning. In the 1980s, the state established regionally based "councils of governments" (COGs), with elected representatives of all cities and towns serving on their boards. Each COG has responsibility over what the state calls a "planning region". By 2015, the planning regions had fully replaced the counties for state statistical purposes, and the federal government followed suit in 2022. The area formerly occupied by Fairfield County is now split between three planning regions:

  • Greater Bridgeport
  • Naugatuck Valley
  • Western Connecticut

This region travel guide to Fairfield County is an outline and may need more content. It has a template, but there is not enough information present. If there are Cities and Other destinations listed, they may not all be at usable status or there may not be a valid regional structure and a "Get in" section describing all of the typical ways to get here.
