Summary

Description
English: Pitcairn Island coastline near Christian's Cave. Original field note by the author: Pitcairn is a basaltic high island of volcanic origin (~ 1 million years old). The highest point is 110' (330 m) on the west side; however, the entire island is surrounded by steep cliffs, at times unclimbable precipices such as Christian's Cave, NW of the main village, Adamstown. Named after Fletcher Christian, who led the "Bounty" mutineers to this remote island in 1790, along with other British seamen & Polynesian women from Tahiti.
