Summary

Description
English: Rabindra Bhavan with a cottage in its front at Mungpoo in Darjeeling district.

The Bungalow at Mungpoo popularly known-as Rabindra Bhavan, is located at Mungpoo, in Kalimpong district. Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore had a long association with Mungpoo. He fell in love with this place the moment he set his foot here. Tagore first came to Mungpoo when Mrs. Maytreyi Devi, wife of the eminent Quintologist Dr. Man Mohan Sen invited him over in 1938. Many of his timeless creations were composed here. The Bungalow where the Kabiguru stayed is now a Museum with his photographs, paintings, writings including the items used by the poet. Tagore had penned three poems including Janmadin during his stay here which are still preserved in the Rabindranath Museum, now housed in the bungalow.

It has now been converted into a museum (known as Ranbindranath Tagore Museum). Tagore came to this house four times between 1938 and 1940 because of his love for the place and special bond with Maitreyi Devi, the daughter of his friend Surendranath Dasgupta.
