Love the map and was thinking of doing one myself. Can you let me know how long the whole process takes, and does it get easier once you get the hang of the software. Also, is there anywhere Wiki users can post intention of generating a map (like a booking out form?). Wouldn't be much fun to spend hours doing one, only to find someone else has been working on the same thing.

Project:How to draw a map: Jpatokal's already written out the process. There is in fact a Mapmaking Expedition to discuss mapmaking. If you intend to make a map, best place to put that up is the article page of the destination. That's the place where a person wanting to make a map of a place is most likely to see it.
