In the spring, Lake Elsinore can be a convenient place for daytrippers to see wild poppies and other wildflowers, especially when the winter months have been rainy. However, it was so crowded during the popular 2016 and 2019 "superblooms", that the flowers were trampled and the traffic brought the city to a standstill. As a result, in 2023, the city closed its public parks and all parking lots near the wildflowers, and also stepped up traffic and parking enforcement, in an effort to discourage visitors. If you go, be sure that you are not damaging the environment or parking illegally.
