Malkangiri is a city in Odisha (formerly Orissa).

Malkangiri is the district headquarter of Malkangiri District. This district is one of the newly created districts in the state of Odisha. It is situated in the southernmost tip of Odisha with the borders of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in near vicinity. Malkangiri lies in the Dandkarnya plains which extends from Chhattisgarh. This town used to be a sleepy hamlet but there is a lot of activity after it got converted into district headquarter. It has a lot of flora and fauna surrounding it and is a nature lovers delight. It has been in news for the ongoing Naxalite activity in places nearer to Malkangiri.

By train: the nearest rail head is located at Jeypore which is 105 km away from Malkangiri.

By bus: Malkangiri is well connected by Bus service. Buses ply throughout the day to Malkangiri from Jeypore. Few buses also ply from Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh.
