Quintay is a seaside resort village in Central Chile. It is easily visited as a daytrip from Santiago or Valparaíso.

Quintay is 122 km from Santiago. Buses from Santiago and Valparaíso. Colectivos from Valpariso to the main square cost 1400 pesos.

Mostly walkable.

  • 1 Museo Ex Ballenera de Quintay, +56 322 362 511, . Daily 11:00-18:00. An old whaling station that once employed almost 1000 men is now an open air museum. Exhibitions and visual documentation are presented whose themes include the myths and realities around the whale, and the history of the whaling station that operated here between 1943 and 1967,. 1000 pesos, children up to 13 free.

There are two beaches.

  • 1 Playa Grande is complete with a resort and a golf course.
  • 2 Playa Chica to the south is deserted.
  • Buceo Quintay, Camino a la ballenera. Scuba diving: initiation dives at a local wreck 8 m deep, International Dive PADI course, open water, and 16-m wrecks dating back to the whaling station operation until 1967. English spoken.
