Why a separate article?

What is the rationale behind splitting this from Gunung Leuser National Park please?. Is Bukit Lawang not part of the park? Certainly much of the content at the remaining Gunung Leuser National Park article relates to Bukit Lawang. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 07:53, 15 May 2011 (EDT)

Apologies, sloppy editing order. Might as well answer this here now. I've just finished reformatting Gunung Leuser NP which should make a lot more sense now as there are several places to go to within the Park, not just Bukit Lawang which is one of the most well-known and top-visited places in Sumatra. I really think this should not be a separate article and that the redirect should not have been removed. Gunung Leuser National Park is the destination and Bukit Lawang is an organgutan sanctuary within the destination. At the moment neither article makes sense and before the recent split, the park article definitely did.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:49, 18 August 2011 (EDT)

Seeing the Orangutan in the wild is one of the best experiences you will have in your life

This is pure hype. The Orangutan you see are not wild. Wild Orangutan would run a mile if they perceived a human near them. The guides seem to herd the animals so the visitors could see them. The charge for being taken into the park "so you don't get lost" is too high. I was charged 300,000. I do not think i or anyone else would get lost. The apparent reason for the guide and the charge was because a german couple got lost one day and it took the rangers several hours to find them. Big deal. People visit these places for adventure. Sure you need to be responsible but all is needed is a few signposts and a map together with some information about the animals you might meet. You could easily get in and out on your own safely. I have seen this in other rainforests in Malaysia. The forest when I visited in February was not heavy rain forest. The ground was dry and it was like walking in any forest in Europe except the trees and plants are different. A guide would certainly be a good idea for a long trek say over 2 days as the park is huge.
