For articles about Guyana, please use the 24-hour clock to show times, e.g. 09:00-12:00 and 18:00-00:00.

Please show prices in this format: G$100, and not $100 or GYD100. (Although prices may be expressed as $100 in Guyana, Wikivoyage uses G$100 to avoid confusion with US$, which are also sometimes used.)

Please use Commonwealth spelling.

OK, I'll try! I visited Guyana in November 2003 to do voluntary health work for a short time. Resources about the country on the net are few and far between...

Regions[edit]

Do we really need 10 regions for a country with 700,000 people? Surely there is a more logical way to split the country? (WT-en) Jpatokal 02:13, 30 October 2009 (EDT)

The ten current regions just follow bureaucratic divisions and little or no thought has been given to this from a WT perspective. I am underway with drawing a map of the country, and after a fair bit of reading (this geographical summary is especially helpful), I would propose regionalising as follows:
  • Guyanese Coastal Plain - Barima Waini, Pomeroon Supenaam, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, Demerara-Mahaica, Mahaica-Berbice.
All 10 existing region articles to be merged and re-directed as appropriate.
The geography of this 3 region proposal definitely makes sense. Any comments gratefully received. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 00:22, 19 January 2010 (EST)

The almost finished map with regions clearly shown looks like this. I think it makes sense. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 03:57, 19 January 2010 (EST)

What is the rationale for the eastern region? In particular, why break off that one piece of coast from the rest? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 15:45, 19 January 2010 (EST)
I was trying not to split the huge Berbice-Corentyne province in the east. I could take a little bit off the north and put it into the Coastal Plain region. Further south from the coast, the eastern region boundary is driven by the geography of river plains and the mountains beginning, as well as existing province boundaries. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:43, 21 January 2010 (EST)

Here is an alternative which may deal with your concern over splitting the coastal strip. The piece of Correntyne-Berbice which I have chopped off is arbirtary as there are no features I can find to determine a boundary. The land here all appears to be uniform flat marshland and cane plantations. I think you are probably correct with your implication about the coastal region and that this is a better split. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 01:28, 22 January 2010 (EST)

Looks good. I guess the reason for the inland split then is that the western part is mountainous and relatively unpopulated, whereas the east is more settled? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 10:56, 22 January 2010 (EST)
More or less. Mountains vs lowland river plains really.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 13:19, 22 January 2010 (EST)

I do not agree Olivia prince (talk) 23:29, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What would you propose to do differently? These things are always open to new discussion. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:30, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regions again[edit]

Do we need the regions at all? Every article listed in the three regions articles is also listed in the country article (except for one). Two of the region articles are skeletons, and the third has only a paragraph or so that doesn't repeat what is in the country article. We could easily roll the region articles into this article and save readers the trouble of clicking through the region articles. Ground Zero (talk) 02:43, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing no response, I will specifically propose to eliminate the region articles and roll what little info they contain up into the country article. Ground Zero (talk) 12:33, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose it is easy to recreate them when more city articles (or whatever) get created. –LPfi (talk) 12:45, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we need regions at all. And as LPfi said, we can recreate them. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:49, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need region articles, so I'd support the proposal. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:10, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would make the region articles redirects and comment out the existing content so that it would be easy to restore and expand if it became appropriate to do so. Ground Zero (talk) 15:08, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
All of this looks sensible to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:18, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Ground Zero (talk) 20:43, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
