Talk:Istanbul Atatürk Airport

As of 2014/06/14 it IS possible to pay for a visa on arrival (my girlfriend and I just did it). Not many other people in the queue though, so it seems most people are getting their visas online. —The preceding comment was added by 85.96.201.141 (talkcontribs)

Alternative banner for this article?[edit]

Suggested new alternative banner

I created a new alternative banner for this article (I initially created it first and foremost so that it would be used at the top of the parallel article in the Hebrew edition of Wikivoyage, yet I later decided to also suggest that the English Wikivoyage community would consider using it here as well). So, which banner do you prefer having at the top of this article? ויקיג'אנקי (talk) 04:47, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Many of your airport banners follow the same scheme of trying to cram a panorama of an airport terminal with as much of the control tower as possible. I don't think it makes for a good composition but, more importantly, it really doesn't highlight the distinguishing features of the airport well. With airports it's tricky, as they're more or less bound to look similar, but then architects and designers go to great lengths to inject them with unique style, more often inside than out. Do try to look for unique shots and perspectives, not necessairly of the whole thing, but also of details. PrinceGloria (talk) 13:59, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but given the two choices in question, the new banner is a far better composition and also lacks the blurriness of the current one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:38, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What to do with this article when the airport closes?[edit]

Seriously, I do not think we have any kind of procedure for that and it is very upcoming... Hobbitschuster (talk) 19:40, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest to save the article as it is but with some big warning box, like we do with past sports events (e.g. Wikivoyage:Past_events/Sochi_2014). ϒpsilon (talk) 19:45, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure. Redirecting it to the article for the new airport is probably most user-friendly. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:26, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should make Istanbul Atatürk Airport redirect to Istanbul New Airport, but have an archived copy under somethinng like Archive/Istanbul Atatürk Airport or Archive:Istanbul Atatürk Airport. Theres also some IATA woes to worry about, with how ISL is temporary given to the new airport until it fully opens, when it will go to Ataturk and IST will be the code for the new airport. I agree that we should redirect to the new airport but also archive the current page somewhere else. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:48, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
