Location of airport?[edit]

A user changed the categorization of Melbourne airport from Victoria to Melbourne (as below)

IsPartOf|Victoria (state) is now changed to IsPartOf|Melbourne

Is this correct? The airport itself seems to be far out of the city. --Andrewssi2 (talk) 07:14, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see no-one ever followed up with this. If the airport isn't in the city, the breadcrumb shouldn't suggest that it is within the city. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:38, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see no-one ever followed up with this. Should I do it? Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:35, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikan Kekek: I realized no-one's responded to you, but the short answer is, the airport is at the very edge Melbourne. The Tullamarine Freeway marks the very end of Melbourne, and the freeway ends at the airport (at exit 19). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 02:20, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see. In that case, it totally makes sense to breadcrumb the article to Melbourne, but this article should be listed in Melbourne#Districts. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:33, 24 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Taxi companies[edit]

I fear we are being spammed by touters (and I don't mean only the new editor, but also possibly the one who added Silver Service Taxi previously - I haven't checked who did). Do any specific taxi companies need to be mentioned, or is it simple to just get a cab at the airport? Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:09, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The link was just changed to the overall page on taxis for the airport rather than a specific one. So in this case an improvement. Although see your point on expanding this out to other articles. --Traveler100 (talk) 13:29, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. I looked a little deeper is the same company. Have merged as a single listing. --Traveler100 (talk) 13:35, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but having a link in "alt" is irregular. "alt" is simply for actual alternate names. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:28, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Car rental companies[edit]

@Ibaman: regarding your removal of car rental listings, I think that car rental listings do belong in airport articles as this is an important service for travellers arriving by air. Wikivoyage:Where you can stick it says "rental services: Vehicle or watercraft rental in subsections of Get in or Get around as transportation, sport equipment in Do with the activity" so I don't think cat rental listings are banned. If national or international chains are what is available at an airport, they should be listed. Ground Zero (talk) 22:28, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I still maintain the point of view that such listings are very much like fast food chains, they're very redundant, they clutter the page, they multiply in geometric progression if not checked and controlled. I think Wikivoyage should never stop discussing whether to list or not such car rental agencies, that are nearly the same four or five ones worldwide. However, I cannot disagree that, based on ttcf, they should, yes, be listed. Ibaman (talk) 13:51, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think the point about chain restaurants us that they are easy to find and boring, so we list interesting local restaurants instead. If a town has no local restaurants, then we list chains because travellers need to eat. Car rental agencies are not in the same category: they are, for the most part, a boring necessity. But if a city had 20 of them, we would not list them all. Ground Zero (talk) 14:10, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My general impression is, if it's easy to find a car rental company in a given place, we don't list any of them. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:19, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Why is that, though? It's not difficult to find hotels or restaurants either, in most parts of the world (I haven't been to Melbourne yet, so I can't speak for it), but we list them because we're a travel guide. Ground Zero (talk) 23:16, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Because restaurants are much more different from each other than car rental agencies are. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:24, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
