Talk:Mount Koya

From Wikivoyage
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Is there some way we can have a search for the word "Koyasan" point at this page? Most travellers and guide books refer to it by this name, rather than Mt. Koya. (san being Japanese for Mt.)

Good point. I'll start a redirect page. (WT-en) WindHorse 04:10, 31 October 2006 (EST)

Photo for the hiking blurb[edit]

I've got a photo of the Japanese five-lined skink that I took on the hike that I just described in a few sentences in the Do section of the page. If anybody with the knowledge of the "grand vision" here at wikivoyage feels that adding the image will be of any use, let me know. (WT-en) Azolotkov 23:15, 19 July 2009 (EDT)

More pictures is always good, so plunge forward! (WT-en) Jpatokal 01:32, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
I have a couple of photos including a cho marker and one of the rather strange temple where the trail begins. However, Im uncertain whether to post that one as it may ruin the "surprising" nature of it. - Snave

Nankai ticket information not accurate[edit]

The article says that the Nankai train + cable car + bus ticket only works if you are not spending the night at Mt Koya. That doesn't sound right. I went twice, both times with that package ticket, and both times we stayed overnight, and everything worked fine. I always feel weird correcting inconsistencies like that, because I can't check back with the person who wrote the original material... What should I do? (WT-en) Azolotkov 08:17, 20 July 2009 (EDT)

Changed the title for mid-range accomodation to a more appropriate "temple stays"[edit]

For most travellers, 90000 to 22000 a night is far from "mid-range"! Also added a few clarifications.

Unusual bonus tidbit for visitors[edit]

If you partake in the popular Japan-tourist past-time of Drainspotting, keep an eye out up here. The town is one of a rare few that doesn't have its own artistic design, but amongst the plain designs, there is one fancy one stuck up here thats a LONG way from home. If anyone knows the story behind it, please do post it up! - Snave

Image[edit]

Danjo Garan of Mount Koya

I have no issues with the current image. Changing it was not about disliking the image. The purpose of changing the image is to avoid the same image appearing multiple times now that there are enough images to have variety. The switched image was used on 5 pages, so I changed them on all pages but 1. The picture that I used to replace it is the one posted here. I don't see how it "looks like ass" unless you think the Danjo Garan itself "looks like ass". The Okunoin is featured in the heading (which is actually of poor quality), so I couldn't use one of those pictures. The Danjo Garan is probably the second most iconic place in Mount Koya so I chose this image. If the issue is that you want the photo to remain on THIS page rather than the other, then we can switch it out on the Japan page. It's representing "Buddhist temples" on that page, and there are plenty of temples in the country, so I'll switch it out over there and leave this one.
