There is now New Brunswick (New Jersey). Should this be disambigged? -(WT-en) phma 06:58, 17 Feb 2004 (EST)

chiaque[edit]

I think we should capitalize the name of any kind of speech. Wikipedia uses w:Chiac, and for a description of rural Acadians, rather than the dialect, "Chiac" (or "Chiacque" for women). Shall we adopt their usage? Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:29, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is standard in English to capitalize languages, dialects, nationalities and ethnicities. That is not the case in French. It is likely that this was imported from a French-language source without making the capitalization correction. Ground Zero (talk) 19:28, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:53, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah it was one of the strangest things I noticed while learning French. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 21:36, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's common to all Romance languages, and it's not strange to me because "no adjectives are capitalized" makes sense, just as "all nouns are capitalized" is a great rule in German. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:47, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
