Drink[edit]

Are Otford's pubs literally in spitting distance of each other? You would require your sputum to project over 100m for this to be true. 81.174.151.35 09:19, 1 April 2007 (EDT)

Redirect[edit]

I don't think that this place is big enough to warrant a separate entry on wikivoyage so I'm propsing that this article is redirected to Sevenoaks and any useful information is moved over to there. -- WOSlinker (talk) 12:11, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Otford, New South Wales[edit]

I think it makes much more sense to cover it along with Stanwell Park given the interconnected nature of both towns – most of the important POIs, such as Bald Hill Lookout and the abandoned rail tunnel – are much closer to Stanwell Park than Royal National Park, and don't require a fee unlike Royal National Park. @Mx. Granger:, your thoughts? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 03:53, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

From my perspective it makes more sense to visit Otford as a gateway to the national park and to visit Stanwell Park as a separate destination, though I suppose others might disagree. As far as I can tell, it's not easy to walk between Otford and Stanwell Park, whereas it's very natural to get off at Otford train station to walk to some of the Royal National Park trails (which IIRC don't require a fee as long as you're not driving into the park). Our Royal National Park article currently mentions Otford 10 times. It might make sense to cover Bald Hill Lookout as part of the Stanwell Park article regardless (Google Maps thinks it's part of Stanwell Tops, and it's not so close to the main part of Otford). Not sure what to say about the abandoned rail tunnel – I went to the one in Helensburgh instead, which was great. —Granger (talk · contribs) 04:49, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see – I've only ever visited Otford once and that was by car (apologies for my car-centric viewpoint regarding these two towns and the fee). In that case, it seems like the best solution to list Bald Hill + railway tunnel in Stanwell Park and the rest in Royal Nat Park.
As a tangent, I've been to both railway tunnels (actually three, since there's a second short but hidden tunnel next to Helensburgh P+R) – the Otford railway tunnel is much like Helensburgh, but is partially vandalised and unfortunately has no glow worms. They're all great, though. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 07:33, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the northern section of the Otford railway tunnel is private property (the gates were open on the southern end and I turned back a few hundred metres before the northern end), so it definitely makes sense to list that in Stanwell Park. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:24, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense to me, and thanks for doing the research about the railway tunnel. —Granger (talk · contribs) 13:51, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
