Should this be a country or even region?[edit]

This article had previously redirected to Bosnia_and_Herzegovina, and is now being made into a sort of country article.

I don't claim to be an expert on this subject, however I'm pretty sure creating an article for a 'Republika Srpska' would need discussing on the Bosnia country level first. Needless to say there might be a strong political opinion about this.

Is there any precedent for what we should do here? Andrewssi2 (talk) 11:35, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was about to undo the change, but Texugo beat me to it :-) The regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been established along other lines here, in the traveler's interest. While it's fine to challenge that division, any major changes should gain consensus first here, especially since it's a politically sensitive matter. Sorry, I hadn't even seen this discussion, as I had come across the page by a means other than the Recent Changes page. But yeah, the country article already mentions this, and anything further there may be to say about it can be said there. Texugo (talk) 12:54, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Bosnia and Herzegovina is composed by two entities: Republika Srpska and Federation of BiH. This [1] is the website of tourism association of the Federation of BiH (entity, not state of Bosnia and Herzegovina). This [2] is the website of tourism association of the Republika Srpska. Tourist organizations of Bosanska Krajina, Herzegovina etc. doesn't exist. It is a political trick. OK, I will not insist, but after a while you will realize that you made a mistake.--Слободни умјетник (talk) 21:15, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Explain what you mean by "political trick." Your arguments need to be based on what's in the best interest of travellers. If the most helpful division of Bosnia and Herzegovina for travellers is to divide it into the two political entities you refer to, that's the division we should use, but please elaborate on your argument as to why that is the case. This is not a political question, and politics do not enter at all into decisions about which regions to use on this site. At most, as per remarks upthread, we need to be aware that any politically controversial decision we make will earn us a lot of hassles from partisans of one or more sides, so we need to be especially careful to clearly justify such decisions based on the interest of the traveller. My test for this sort of thing is where you can go with what visa. If you need separate visas for BiH and Republica Srpska, then they are two countries for travel purposes. If you need only one visa, then we should have only one country article; my impression is that is the case here.
Whether the Republica article should be a redirect to B & H, a redirect to a region, or a region of its own can be discussed at Talk:Bosnia_and_Herzegovina. Pashley (talk) 21:49, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
