(WT-en) felix 15:22, 12 October 2009 (EDT)The prices and contact details for 'eat' and 'sleep' are still needing thorough update . No doubt some prices have gone up in the last few years, maybe not. Those who frequent the senggigi entertainment strip more often may like to update this.

the following section has been edited for clarity-but remains available in the history string:

Desa Senggigi itself only runs along the coast between the hilltop where it meets Batu Bolong and through to the hill at the northern end of Mangsit.

This following information is for purposes of reference only (as opposed to a structure for the page):

  • Senggigi is a township (Dusun)
  • Senggigi is also a Municipality (Desa)

Senggigi district is actually properly defined as: (Negara)-Indonesia > (Provinsi) Nusa Tenggara Barat > (Kabupaten) Lombok Barat > Kecamatan) Batu Layar > (Desa) Senggigi

And it incorporates:

  • 1, (Negara)-Indonesia > (Provinsi) Nusa Tenggara Barat > (Kabupaten) Lombok Barat > Kecamatan) Batu Layar > (Desa) Senggigi > (Dusun) Senggigi
  • 2. (Negara)-Indonesia > (Provinsi) Nusa Tenggara Barat > (Kabupaten) Lombok Barat > Kecamatan) Batu Layar > (Desa) Senggigi > (Dusun) Kerungdangan
  • 3. (Negara)-Indonesia > (Provinsi) Nusa Tenggara Barat > (Kabupaten) Lombok Barat > Kecamatan) Batu Layar > (Desa) Senggigi > (Dusun) Mangsit

In building a more meaningful and enduring purpose to this page it would be good if the meaning of "Senggigi Area" was to be defined. It is neither informing nor productive to include areas to the north such as Bangsel, Pemenang, the 3 Gillli Islands, Sira, Medana and Tangung all into "Senggigi Area" as seemed to be happening until recently. Those areas to the north have a different point on the compass for a start but they are also within a different Kabutan and Kecamatan. Also the area in the north is marketed quite differently and has a very different focus and a different language dialect and subtly diffferent customs and traditions.

The new Kabupaten of Lombok UTARA is also soon to have it's own tourism marketing office and development program.

Hotels and some entertainment establishments lying between Montong and Batu Bolong are descibed as in "Senggigi" when technically they are not at all. It should be noted that Jayakarta Lombok (situated in Montong and close to Batu Layar) describe themselves as Mataram, Lombok as far as their website is concerned anyway.

This is why pragmatically the Senggigi Area may need to remain as a broader collective area but is must be at least limited to Montong thru to Mangsit at the maximun otherwise it is just gets silly, and confusing.

There is a large steel and concrete sign bridging the roadway at Montong near the Sandik turnoff. To many visitors that announces the Senggigi area although Senggigi is really still a few kilometres away. The hotel/accommodation facilities do not really start until up toward Batu Layar but the sign looks pretty permanent. No wonder tourists get lost on a coastline with hills on one side and sea on the other. If a tourist asks to go to Senggigi or how to get there they will be directed to the township of Senggigi, not Mangsit, Montong and certainly not Medana.

So the "Senggigi Area" may need to be very broadly considered as the following 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 as indicated below even though 1, 2 and 3 are technically in Batu Layar and not in Senggigi at all.

  • 1. Montong
  • 2. Batu Layar
  • 3. Batu Bolong
  • 4. Senggigi (township)
  • 5. Kerangdangan
  • 6. Mangsit

Possibly the solution is to consider that Senggigi page is to cover the area of the Desa of Senggigi, that is Senggigi, (township), Kerangdangan and Mangsit. Montong, Batu Layar and Batu Bolong then need to be encompassed in a wider definition of "Senggigi" as they are sometimes marketed as that especially by the travel aggregators. Maybe "Senggigi South (Batu Layar)" or something similar. "Batu Layar" is technically correct.

It would be good to make a serious effort to make sure that Bulan Baru in Setangi does not get orphaned. When Elbano in Setangi or Nusa Bunga or any one else opens then maybe Kelui-Setangi justifies having it's own basic page with all the obvious links to keep them connected to the Senggigi Area and also the northern destinations.

Nusa Bunga in Kelui is currently undergoing massive renovation and re-construction and is apparently under new Abu Dhabi ownership. Kelui through to Malimbu is a very quiet area though with not a lot going on so it may be difficult to realistically do a page just for Kelui, Setangi even if it were to incorporate a few more bays further to the north maybe up to and including Malimbu. The road through Malimbu is soon to open through to the inland Pemenang-Ampenan route making that a viable shortcut and short scenic drive link. The beaches each of these bays have their own individual character though and that strip is certainly now a recognised and trafficable scenic route and is sometimes quite busy. It is also the site of the Lombok Triathlon bike race. Not quite Lombok Riviera though. edited: (WT-en) felix 00:53, 13 October 2009 (EDT)

The old Nusa Bunga property has been completely revamped with new accommodations and re-branded Jeeva Klui (sic) Resort. It is advertising an opening date of August. They seem to be pitching at the qunci villa boutique resort style market.

Blacklisting Sheraton Senggigi[edit]

Today i blacklisted the Sheraton due to the continous violations of our policies by them. Burmesedays warned them and i left notes on their talk pages too. Please revert the sunset bar of the hotel and the main listing on the spot until they commit to our policies. (WT-en) jan 03:44, 7 June 2010 (EDT)

The Beach Club closed down[edit]

We tried to walk in to check for a room as an employee told us that "The Beach Club" closed down a couple of days ago. In the talk we got to know that the landlord didnt want to extend the lease and they had to close down. All the equipment and furniture gets moved to a place on Gili Air. As the plans for the buildings and the place itself won't the same anymore I thought its about time to remove this dead entry.
