it takes more than 2 hours to get from stockport to london on a bus!! takes at least 4 hours, and the bus to manchester is more like 40 mins than 20. im editing appropriately. 84.69.208.55 13:49, 7 September 2007 (EDT)

Depends on time of day how long it takes to get into Manchester. Can be 20 mins. Find the Harold Shipman comments offensive beyond belief!

By the way Shipman was working in Hyde which is in Tameside and not Stockport!

Merge Cheadle into Stockport[edit]

(copied from Cheadle discussion so it remains visible)

See discussion at Talk:Manchester#Greater_Manchester_districts. AlasdairW (talk) 21:49, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's proposed that Cheadle should merge and redirect into Stockport. Abney Hall would migrate into See, the golf course into Do, and Create It (once de-touted) into Buy. Several of the eating places, pubs and hotels would also migrate. Grahamsands (talk) 10:06, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do we know whether visitors typically use Cheadle as a base for visting Stockport, or do they go straight into Manchester, bypassing Stockport? Of the 4 stations listed, it looks like only Cheadle Hulme has a good service to Stockport. AlasdairW (talk) 22:52, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If there are any visitors, that is. Can't imagine many tourists coming here so it would be business or a duty visit to Auntie Morag. Cheadle is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, they're three miles apart with frequent buses. In between is Edgeley and Cheadle Heath, with Cheadle Hulme further out. As you'd expect around a big city, the railways radiate from central Manchester so they transit the area along more than one line but don't cross-connect, use bus. In fact, I've just this minute remembered, couple of years ago on a business visit it was a nice day so I walked between. It's all coming back to me now. Stockport had a definite town centre, the rest was just a continuous burb. Grahamsands (talk) 19:26, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No objections so relevant content has been migrated to Stockport, though not yet integrated so it's lumpy for the time being. Okay to redirect? Grahamsands (talk) 14:52, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nem con so Cheadle is redirected to Stockport. I'm copying this discussion to Stockport / Talk so it remains visible. Grahamsands (talk) 14:42, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Marple into Stockport[edit]

In Feb 2020 I proposed this merger, but it was contentious. There has since been a round of mergers / redirections of other townships in Greater Manchester, which have helped calibrate our expectations of what does and doesn't stand as a separate "city" page, and how to go about it. Stockport has already absorbed Cheadle (part of the same borough) and it would be natural likewise to absorb Marple (England) which is a small place. Grahamsands (talk) 14:59, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think it should stay as it is. Marple is further out and physically separated from Stockport town (unlike Cheadle), and most sections have at least one listing. Per WIAA, I'd say it passes, though could obviously do with some attention.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:26, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not convinced, but let's leave as it is. Grahamsands (talk) 09:12, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
