prices for transport and taxi's are not correct. 5 lari for a taxi brings you a couple of metro stations further but to most places you would need about twice as much. —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) 109.238.225.194 (talkcontribs)

Please plunge forward and update the prices. – (WT-en) Vidimian 06:05, 4 January 2011 (EST)

Reversion of Old Town Hostel listing[edit]

The listing, as I mentioned in my deletion note, is in the first person and overly touty. To wit:

"You will love it, because we love our guests."

On what basis was my deletion reverted? I'll take a more moderate step of deleting that sentence. Please explain your reasoning before you revert this. Thanks. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 21:27, 8 February 2011 (EST)

P.S. I hope my editing of my own remarks here, since they hadn't yet been replied to, is acceptable. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 21:33, 8 February 2011 (EST)

Updated the price for the buses and deleted some overly subjective opinions. —The preceding comment was added by 178.134.70.47 (talkcontribs)

I've been in the city a few weeks and saw fit to do quiet a bit of editing, cleaned up some grammar, added cheap places (strangely absent), and added some less touristed bars and clubs that punch above their weight. The hostel scene is changing rapidly with many new places opening up and I expect prices to change, I hope that the hostel listings stay relatively concise. I'm editing off terminal computers and have been lazy with logging in, if you see edits from a bunch of random places I am most likely the culprit -Willthewanderer

Districtify[edit]

Hi everyone. I believe it would really make sense to split up Tbilisi in district. One really does move in one district or uses the metro to get from one place to the other. So these places are pretty much separated in their sense. Here is a suggestion for a splitup, no idea whether that matches the administrative parts of the city:

  1. Old Town, sulphur baths & botanical garden
  2. Rustaveli avenue and surroundings (shopping)
  3. Vera Park (night live)
  4. Vake
  5. Station Square, Stadium, Marjanishvili (shopping, some hostels and clubs)
  6. Avlabari & Holy Triniti church
  7. Saburtalo (not so relevant)
  8. Didube and everything north (Chronicles of Georgia and Lake)
  9. Southest beyond Avlabari

If agreed, we would need a naming for these districts. If someone comes up with the naming, I would figure out the different administrative part they are made of. Cheers Ceever (talk) 14:17, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article looks long enough to districtify. About how many listings would you expect to be in each of these articles? Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:38, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I guess at least 10 listings for each of the main 6 districts, with high a concentration along Rustaveli and in/around the Old Town.
Cheers Ceever (talk) 23:00, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. You have my blessing, though I hope people who know the city weigh in with their opinions. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:46, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the article looks pretty long so a district division could be useful. If there are enough content for this many districts, then go ahead, but it's of course also possible to start with a smaller number of districts and if you notice some of them will become very long they can be further split. Also, official districts can be good guidelines, but if their borders are counter-intuitive to visitors, then it's better to use landmarks that can be seen in reality and on maps such as wide streets/roads, railways, parks and bodies of water. Ypsilon (talk) 16:59, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out, there are no proper district bounderies on OSM. This makes it a little harder and I dont know whether it is a good idea to disrictify Tbilisi without them, probably double work.
I tried using existing district ways on OSM to define relations, but apparently these ways are not exact and editors on OSM prevent creating relations from them. 🤷‍♂️
If anyone is keen enough creating the proper relations on OSM and WD for the districts, this would definitely help.

@Ceever, @Ypsilon: I have added a list of districts with neighbourhoods and a map here: Tbilisi#Districts. Maybe it's a good idea to separate Tbilisi to several articles? For example, I would like to write about smaller villages inside Tbilisi area, where do I do it? Soshial (talk) 09:04, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

FoP issue. Beautiful, not visible in the article, but there's plenty of room for more images in the last 1/3 or more of the article. Should we upload this file locally and show it as a thumbnail? Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:21, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would support doing uploading it for use in this article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:03, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done. This is a featured picture/quality image. It's a real pity that it has to be deleted from Commons, and I'm glad we can keep it here. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dang. Looked nice. But thanks for uploading it. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:46, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The requirement that images be free to use commercially is really the source of a lot of trouble for Commons. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:51, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it was also kind of sad to see this go. But again, we've had other FPs also been deleted from Commons as well. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 01:57, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not visible on the page, and we're already using a featured picture of this cathedral on the page, so I don't care about this one's impending deletion. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:27, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not on the page and inferior to a file we already have local and are using. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:29, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cycling[edit]

right now it's described as rare -- in my view, it should be added that there are many bike paths. Something like "Cycling was rare, but with an expanding network of bike paths, more cyclists now can be seen. The consensus view is that cycling does require significant experience."

(One could also add that scooters are available.) Hundnase (talk) 03:49, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and add the information! Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:16, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

thx -- added my stuff. You can lock again. ~~~ Hundnase (talk) 10:55, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I think we'll hope the spammers are gone for now. The lock would have expired soon anyway. –LPfi (talk) 12:01, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
