Pronunciation[edit]

How do you pronounce the name of the town? Is it Ti-win or Tye-win? An addition of some kind of phonetic script would be helpful for visitors. I'm from Wales, but not Welsh speaking. Thanks. (WT-en) Frequenttrekker 23:07, 11 September 2008 (EDT)

Good point - illustrated perfectly by the fact that neither of your suggestions is correct! Wikipedia [1] says In Welsh the name is pronounced (IPA: /'təwɨn/) or (IPA: /'təwin/), whereas the English pronunciation tends to be (IPA: /'tawin/)., but I don't think it's common practise on Wikivoyage to use the International Phonetic Alphabet? The correct pronunciation is something like "Tuh-win". If you said it like the english word "towing" but with out the "g" then you would be on the right track, though if you had a southern english accent you'd need to shorten the "o" sound. I'm going to add "(pronounced "tuh-win")" just now, and if anyone comes up with a better way of putting it they are welcome! (WT-en) Tarr3n 04:12, 12 September 2008 (EDT)

Map[edit]

Could someone draw up a map, of if someone is willing to just plot the listings on a openstreetmap.org png, I could make it - as far as I'm concerned it's the only thing holding this article back from being a star. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 20:59, 27 November 2008 (EST)

I was planning to start working on a map but not having had much previous experience (the Bro Dysynni area map on this article was my first shot) your help would be much appreciated. I have looked at OpenStreetMap but virtually none of the streets in the town are currently plotted on there - effectively just the main A493, plus the bridges across the 2 railway lines are shown which would help to plot some of the other streets where they cross the railways. I was planning to try to put together a basic street plan and then start plotting listing locations next time I had some spare time to dedicate to it. Delighted you think it's a star candidate! Cool, yeah checked OSM.org and that is indeed lacking, and no maps from a google search... hmmmm, anyway, would be happy to help, but I do need something to go on. Regarding starification, I read through the article again thoroughly, and there is a couple of other issues holding in back, but it wouldn't take much more work getting it up on standard - it's mainly just a matter of getting proper addresses on the listings, and adding a couple of missing phone numbers. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 10:20, 2 December 2008 (EST)
OSM seems to have improved so I've made a start on a map and uploaded my first effort. Need to add more listings which I will do over the next couple of weeks. Will then go back and improve the Bro Dysynni map too. (WT-en) Tarr3n 10:52, 18 March 2010 (EDT)
