History[edit]
Harajuku is noted for one of the most powerful trendsetting city among young people now. However, it's history began in Edo period as post station. In Edo period, there were many retainer's "Ninja" residences to protect Edo city. After Meiji period, Harajuku was developed as staging post between the center of a capital and the out side of there. In 1906, JR Harajiku Station was set up, and in 1919, Omotesando was opened to traffic. Around 1966, "Harajuku-zoku" appeared. they got together at the roadside restaurant named "root-5" at every midnight and they were regarded as the "bad". After that, "PARCO" was opened in 1973 and the whole of Shibuya-ku including Harajuku has been developed as the center of youth culture. In 1978, "Laforet Harajuku" was opened. In 1980, "Takeshita street" became fomous by "Takenoko-zoku".

Takeshita street
Takeshita street is one of the most famous shopping street in Japan. There are many boutiques but most of them sell unique clothes.
If you go that street, you may encounter many peoples who dresses in Gothic Lolita clothes.
Meiji Shrine
Meiji Shrine (Meiji-jingu) is the shinto shrine to dedicate Emperor Meiji. At shrines, people make monetary offerings, praying for health and well-being for the coming year. On New Year's Day, there are filled with the crowd for that reason.

Cat Street
“Cat street” was named by high school girls. (there's proper name is "kyu-shibuyagawa-yuho street") And there is called "Ura-harajiku". There are a number of high-quality boutiques and rag shops.

Crêpe
"crape"is a type of very thin pancake. It is from French, but many street stands in Harajuku sell it for some reason. You may be hard to choose one of those crapes when you are in front of the stand because there are so many varieties of toppings.

Omotesando
The main street of Harajuku is Omotesando. there are many luxury brand shops, for example, LOUIS VUITTON, DIOR, BURBERRY, GUCCI and so on.In winter, the Christmas lights at Omotesando are so beautiful.
