Las Vegas[edit]

Hi! I added above our standard welcome message to give you an overview about our policies. Your edits are welcome but in LasVegas in clear violation of our policies for don't tout and Project:Activity listings. I already shortened it substantially but i fear the rest might need to go as well. We prefer to have it short and simple and you long text might result in a complete revert. Also listing only one company but then market them pretty long is very suspicious. (WT-en) jan 09:29, 13 July 2010 (EDT)

Hi Kandi! Thank you first of all for your detailed message on my talk page. I forgot one link for you, as you are an experienced Wikipedian Project:Welcome, Wikipedians. Here at Wikivoyage we are a bit suspicious when it comes to tour companies. You shouldn't name it Las Vegas Helicopter Tours and link it to a real world company Maverick Helicopters. That's imho a bit irritating and that couldn't be in the travelers interest (and also not in line with our policy). I assume you did your edits in good faith so i suggest the following. We keep a rather short do listing on Maverick Helicopters and their business adress. You are a traveler and had a good experience others might be interest in, too. If you want to detail the helicopter routes, they will unnecessarily enlarge the Las Vegas article and might be only interesting for a minority of travellers. I suggest to instead start a Travel_topics and simply link it into the article. Travelers who are interested in flying then can read the details in the travel topic article (e.g. called chopper routes around Las Vegas)and the rest will only focus on the main article. My main concern is to keep the section free from spam/touts which are very often attracted by such listings. I don't wanted to be harsh but touts are sadly a major issue here at Wikivoyage... If you would e.g. draw a map for this routes it might became a very popular travel topic.
One totally unrelated point: We encourage lively writing and the article would strongly profit from a brief listing instead of a long detailed one.(WT-en) jan 15:29, 14 July 2010 (EDT)
