You're really cool. No, I mean that. Like, who would have thought to put something funny on the main page? It cracks me up. You should be in showbusiness. (WT-en) Majnoona 20:26, 30 Oct 2004 (EDT)

Now, now. People are gonna want to experiment with the software. It's essential curiosity. No harm, no foul -- there's no permanent damage. There's a possibility that our friend here will want to help out with our project, in which case it's in our best interest to be courteous. If he or she doesn't want to help, being mean doesn't get us anywhere, and it kind of fouls the atmosphere here. If you don't have anything nice to say, etc. --(WT-en) Evan 21:04, 30 Oct 2004 (EDT)

How and why wiki works[edit]

The interesting thing is that we don't really need to have highly caffeinated moderators checking the site all the time. Since anyone can edit a page, anyone can fix a problem. So obviously undesirable edits don't usually last for more than a few minutes. The software also has a lot of tools for monitoring changes to the site. And the software's easy enough that even if someone is new to the site, they can figure out how to fix problems.

Probably the big thing is that 99.9% of people will be cool if you trust them. Put up lots of fences and barriers, and intelligent people only think about how to get around them. Leave things unlocked, and people start getting creative instead.

Anyways, hope your wiki experiment went well. If you're interested in learning more about what we're doing here, check out Project:About or Project:welcome, newcomers. We have a good explanation of wiki at Project:WikiWiki and there are some links off of there to more "wiki theory" sites. Anyways, good luck and see you around, --(WT-en) Evan 21:02, 30 Oct 2004 (EDT)
