Nitpicking[edit]

Hi! Why are you removing spaces from the article Mariehamn and changing it from American English to British English? --Stefan2 (talk) 21:17, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Last time I looked, Mariehamn was still in the European Union - so why do you think Texan English and typography should be used?
Even in Texas, they put the currency symbol before the amount. --90.221.87.151 21:19, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Please don't remove spaces for distances and durations according to the Measurements policies. You might also want to look at the Currency policies. Freayd (talk) 22:52, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting reading - thanks!
Would you give a concrete example of where you think I'm buggering currency notation? --90.221.87.151 23:08, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think Stefan2 said something about currencies. If we talk about details, here you should having been using $100 instead of USD100, and here kr 123 (note the non-breaking space) instead of NOK123. Again these are details nice to be corrected, sure but, as said in the policies: "Don't knock yourself out correcting, there is more important work to be done in plunging forward". Anyway, please consider creating an account :) Freayd (talk) 15:41, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Freayd: I'm afraid I have to disagree. In your first example, you are discussing a Mexico destination article so it is entirely correct to use the form USD50-60 as I did rather than the (ambiguous) form of $50-60 or the unapproved form of US$50-60.
I have considered creating an account but I'm not sure yet that I want to stick around in such an unfriendly place that can not make things easier for casual editors by having a clearly signposted and consistent style guide.
I read the discussion page for the Currency policies you referred me to and I was appalled to see that, after a lengthy, patient and erudite discussion that established a new consensus, this was simply overturned six months later by some super-users offering no further argumentation or new information but just effectively yelling "Wahhhhhhh, I don't like it". --90.221.87.151 18:05, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You can find a link leading to the style guide (policies) on the left sidebar. It's, indeed, a lot to read. Of course casual editors don't know them, I think the most important thing is "plunging forward". They are plenty of articles which don't respect the 100% policies but anyway, the content is much more important than the style. I'm really sorry to hear that you experience this wiki as unfriendly, please feel welcomed here and I really hope you'll enjoy your time using/contributing to Wikivoyage.
