Marhaba and Hello, Annaproject! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.

By the way, thanks for your contributions to Dubai article. Are you an expatriate in the Emirates? --Saqib (talk) 22:16, 6 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Saqib,
Thanks for the welcome. I really appreciate it. I don't know if this is how I respond to you as I've only ever done minor edits.
I've lived in Dubai for the last 6 years. In the last year I'm traveling more to the States for work. What about you?
I'll check out the tips you've sent along (I don't get yet how to format hyperlinks as it looks like it's far more complicated than just clicking the hyperlink icon and embedding the URL).
Basically, I'm from Karachi but my family lives in the Emirates thats why I'm living between both the cities. As for links, I want you to check out this page. Happy travels! --Saqib (talk) 00:02, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dubai[edit]

Hi! I saw your changes in Dubai and would like to question one deletion. You deleted the "Disneyland" sentence and i would like to keep it in. I understand your reasons but lively writing is encouraged here and not only westerners think that, too. I had my fair share in DXB and i think it is for the Saudis and other arabs a sort of Arabic Disneyland. Emiratis might not like it but in the real world i guess this impression will stay. Would you reconsider your edit? I don't want to undo it without discussing it with you.

Hey, thanks for responding. That makes sense. Of course we can keep it if you feel strongly about it. Can we place it further down? Here is what I was thinking: I don't know if you have ever watched Americans narrate the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, when all of the other nations come out on the field. Each time a new country comes out, especially a small one, or a non-Western one, they tend to say strange things about an entire nation, like, "This country exists solely to produce oil," or "the Disneyland of the Middle East." Somehow I've always felt it slightly arrogant. So I'm totally cool placing it back it, but how do you feel about placing it further down? Also, I'm not good at signing my name yet Annaproject (talk) 05:16, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the seedy deletion. Dubai is by far not Angeles, Pattaya or anything else but the redlight business is booming. I definitely would rather mention it in the stay safe section because it is illegal. It still exists though, so it needs a sober warning. jan (talk) 20:16, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with Jan and I was going to ask you the same. Please reconsider undoing both of those edits. --Saqib (talk) 20:24, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great idea, Jan and Saqib, meaning that I think it would be a good idea to place it in the stay safe section. I was also curious, I've been in Dubai for about 6 years, I'm wondering where this kind of action is taking place and whether it is the same that I have seen. I don't know if you want to elaborate on this page or not. Annaproject (talk) 05:16, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As Jan said, prostitution is thriving business in Dubai as compare to other Arab states. Even though its illegal but the fact is Dubai attracts plenty of visitors just for the sake of it which makes it the Middle East's most favourable sex tourism destinations. Have you ever been to a dodgy night club in Dubai? You can see a glimpse very easily there. --Saqib (talk) 12:51, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
