Hello Peaceray! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:

It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!

Userbox Templates[edit]

I've noticed you just created many templates, can you please explain what's the point of creating those templates or otherwise they'll be deleted. --Saqib (talk) 21:12, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peaceray, thanks for bringing this up. I think there is a case to be made for userbox templates, in terms of understanding who knows the region or city, which would be useful for districts and regions discussion. Right now I have no trouble in keeping track of who to ask, but in terms of growth potential, a category system would be very handy indeed. One recent example was the Seoul district splitting, where we needed someone with local knowledge to chip in with how best to organise information. The key of it is, how to keep the user templates neat as well - is there anyway they could be consolidated? -- torty3 (talk) 00:21, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wholeheartedly agree; however there has been some opposition (see User talk:Saqib#User box templates) & most of the Templates that I put in were marked with the experimental Template, so I think that there will need to be a discussion at the Traveller's Pub & perhaps a task force if we collectively agree to implement Userboxes. Peaceray (talk) 00:37, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It would be great if you focus on improving Hawaii destination articles. --Saqib (talk) 10:23, 3 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding userboxes, there is an existing proposal at Wikivoyage talk:Using MediaWiki templates#Userboxes that never came to fruition. You might want to comment there as there seemed to be support for some sort of "user location" boxes. Also, thanks for your patience - the difference in template policies between this site and Wikipedia can be very frustrating! -- Ryan • (talk) • 07:10, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Ryan, it is already done. You can read it at Wikivoyage talk:Using MediaWiki templates#Region of origin user templates and Region of residence user templates. Peaceray (talk) 07:20, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox categories[edit]

Hi there. I see you haven't been around since early November, but I wanted to know - The experimental user subpages you have created for designing userbox categories are calling for several non-existent categories at Special:WantedCategories. Since you seem to have abandoned this effort, would you mind terrible if we disabled (commented out) the category calls that are causing those to appear in the wanted categories list, at least for the time being? Thanks. Texugo (talk) 13:32, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! Peaceray (talk) 06:51, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

I just want to say, I really value your working with us and being so active here. We need more people like you who work tenaciously and cooperatively to make this as good a travel guide as it can be. Mahalo! Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:35, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I second that. Really, really first-rate work, Peaceray. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 01:48, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(WT-en) accounts[edit]

Just an FYI, but any account that starts with (WT-en) is an attribution-only account used to credit authors for imported edits; there isn't actually a user attached to those accounts. As a result any talk page message left for such an account is unlikely to be read. -- Ryan • (talk) • 00:41, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ryan, thanks, I thought that was almost certainly the case, but with any shotgun approach as mine, much is likely not to hit the mark. I would rather have a 99% chance of unsuccessfully contacting an inactive editor than a 1% chance of missing someone in the Seattle area who is active. Peaceray (talk) 03:51, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How about a 0.01% chance, which is probably closer to the mark? Good luck. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:45, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
