Welcome to the banner Hall of 'Fame', a repository for the best and most useful banners that have featured on the Wikivoyage Main Page. Each banner has a brief description of why it works for the Main Page and its best features. Please feel free to add any banners (or descriptions) that you feel were particularly good or instructive for the process by which we decide on the images and text to use with them. For especially good page banners, please see WV:Star standard banners.

Why it works: The lighting around the pond lights up the walls in a way that gives the scene even more effective lighting than if the picture was taken in the daytime. The quality of the image is also quite high.
Why it works: It's a beautiful picture that has a quite a few contrasts (boats, water, mountains, etc.) but is still a peaceful scene overall. If any picture could really sell a destination, this one does.
Why it works: This image is perfectly cropped to accommodate right-aligned text and provides a vivid backdrop to the location's description. As an OTBP banner this image immediately gives the visitor a sense of 'place', if not its precise location.
Why it works: Another vivid image, although this one is perhaps somewhat grainier than might be hoped. Despite this, the photograph overcomes its low quality with a very clear purpose and dark colours, making for an excellent back-drop to the white text used on the Main Page.
Why it works: This picture really looks alive, as it should considering it's a volcano.
Why it works: This image presents an unusual perspective on a well-known landmark, which immediately defines the location to the visitor. The colours are vivid and the image has been digitally altered to provide optimum space for a description aligned to the left.
Why it works: Another example of an image picked as 'the best of a bad job', this photograph is rather grainy, but the crop and digital enhancements have brightened its colour and ensured that the corners (where the text resides) are darker than other parts of the picture.
Why it works: The calm scene in the picture overall puts the focus on the statues, which illustrate the point of the article, the Underground Railroad. The colors green, blue, and brown are found almost everywhere in the picture, providing an interesting lighting effect — it's hard to find anything in the picture that isn't one of these three colors or is similar to them.
Why it works: A very clear and crisp image, the white expanse shown in this image makes the destination it advertises very plain. Its vivid hints of blue add interest to the photograph whilst it is well cropped to accommodate text.
