Hello, Simon Burchell! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here.--ϒpsilon (talk) 17:25, 3 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Links to Wikipedia[edit]

Hello, and thank you very much for the excellent content you're adding!

There have been several rounds of extensive debate on this site about how many and what kinds of links to Wikipedia we should be using. So far, in light of vociferous opposition to allowing links other than one at the end of each article on the same subject (e.g., w:New York City in the Wikivoyage guide for New York City) that appears in the sidebar on the left of the page, other types of links to Wikipedia, such as for articles about attractions, remain banned, in favor of primary links to official sites of the attractions, if any. The relevant policy page is WV:Links to Wikipedia. I regret the inconvenience.

All the best,

Ok -thanks. Doesn't make much sense to me for lesser-known places where the best info is available on Wikipedia, and has been culled from archaeological reports. These places won't have their own website, and are well off the beaten track... But rules are rules, sigh. Simon Burchell (talk) 12:18, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree that the effects of this policy are unfortunate in such cases, but we have yet to reach a consensus on new guidelines, so this is the situation we're left with, at least for now. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:26, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if there is any informational page about the site from a governmental tourism site or the official website of a locality or province, that could be provided. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:28, 4 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
