English: Selkirk Common Riding on Peat Law These horses and riders are following the Selkirk Standard Bearer and his attendants during the Riding of the Marches at the annual Selkirk Common Riding. The ride-out, lasting over 4 hours, fords the Ettrick Water and climbs into the hills to the northwest of Selkirk before returning to the town centre for the casting of the colours ceremony. The mounted cavalcade can number up to 400 horses and riders, although this year it was estimated to be around 350.
