Take the A3023 south from the A27 at Havant

By train

The Hayling Billy line closed in 1963 and the nearest railway station is now Havant. Options are available to continue by bus, taxi, foot or bicycle.

Stagecoach Bus service 30/31 go to Hayling Island from Havant bus station.

By ferry

By bicycle or on foot

The Hayling Billy Heritiage Trail runs over the old railway route from Havant to West Town. While there was a causeway known as the 'Wadeway' which ran from Langstone to Northney, the remains of which are visible at low tide, this was severed for the Chichester to Portsmouth canal in the 1820s and is now dangerous and impassable.

  • 1 Mengham Shopping Centre (Follow signs to Mengham from A3023 or Seafront). Two streets forming the largest and most central shopping centre on Hayling Island with a variety of services such as healthcare and banks
  • 2 Beachlands wednesday carboot, 5 Seafront, Hayling Island PO11 0AG (Follow the A3023 south to the seafront and follow signs to the parking). A noted carboot that takes place on Wednesdays on the beach subject to the weather

Eat

  • 1 The Inn on the Beach (Head west along the seafront at then turn left at the sign marked Inn on the Beach). Iconic former lifeboat station now a pub/restaurant on its own on the beach with stunning views an occasional live music

Drink

  • 1 The Ferryboat (The Ferry Boat), Ferryboat Inn, Ferry Road, Hayling Island, PO11 0DG (Head west from shre road at the south of the island and turn into the car park before the Inn and avoid continuing down the slipway). Historic Inn and a great place to relax inside or out with views over Langstone Harbour and Portsmouth. The most famous previous Landlords were the Spraggs family who also used to run the ferry.
