Tarikere is a taluk in Chikmagalur district in the state of Karnataka, India.

Understand

The word Tarikere is derived from the words “ Tari ” and “ Kere “, “ Tari ” means “ paddy ” and “ kere ” means “ Large water tanks” . It is surrounded by number of large water tanks namely; Chikkere, Doddakere, Dalavikere, Ramanayakakere etc.

By Road

National Highway NH-206 (Bangalore to Honnavar) passes through the Tarikere town. From the district headquarters of Chikmagalur, Tarikere can be reached by a road via Lingadahalli. The famous hill station of Kemmannagundi, falls on this road.

By Rail

Tarikere lies on the Bangalore - Shimoga railway line and there are trains from Mysore and Bangalore which stop at Tarikere on the way to Shimoga.

By Air

There are no airports in the near vicinity. Air travellers have to make use of one of Mangalore, Hubli or Bangalore airports and choose an alternate means of transport to reach Tarikere.

Get around

There are many autorickshaws and cabs available to visit nearby places, but drivers don't go by meters. They fix a charge for the place you want to go; bargaining is up to you. The more your attire and luggage announce that you are a tourist the greater the chance of drivers ripping you off.
