County Offaly (Irish: Contae Uíbh Fhailí) is in Ireland's East Coast and Midlands in the province of Leinster.

  • 1 Tullamore (Tulach Mhór, "great mound") – county town and largest town
  • 2 Banagher (Beannchar na Sionna)
  • 3 Birr (Biorra, "plain of water")
  • 4 Clara (Clóirtheach or An Clárach)
  • 5 Edenderry (Éadan Doire, "hill-brow of the oak wood")
  • 6 Ferbane (Féar Bán, "white grass")
  • 7 Kilcormac (Cill Chormaic)
  • 8 Shannonbridge (Droichead na Sionainne)
  • 9 Roscrea is just over the boundary into County Tipperary, but a good base for seeing Leap Castle.

  • The M6 Dublin/Galway motorway and the M7 Dublin/Limerick/Cork motorway goes through Offaly.
  • Bus from Dublin, Galway and Waterford.

By car

The easiest way to get around Offaly is by car. The roads are good enough.

By taxi

Get in a taxi, bring you anywhere.

By boat

The Grand Canal will bring you from Edenderry through to Daingean, Tullamore, Rahan and Shannon Harbour.

By train

Go from Clara to Tullamore and on to Portarlington by train which are all on the Dublin to Galway/Westport line.

By bicycle

Cycle along the canal through the county.

  • Charleville Forest Castle in Tullamore is a Gothic building surrounded by ancient oaks.
  • Lough Boora is an extensive wetland and wildlife wilderness. Within it, Sculpture in the Parklands is a 50-acre sculpture park.
