By car

Exit the North-South Expressway (PLUS) via Air Hitam/Yong Peng (if coming from the south) or Tangkak/Pagoh (if coming from the north) and follow the signs to Batu Pahat.

By train

There is no local train station. The nearest train station is in the nearby town of Kluang.

By car

The best way to get around is by car or taxi. There are several one-way roads so be wary and keep a look out for the roadsigns.

By bus

The main local bus terminal is in the town centre next to the intercity bus terminal. Stage buses take you to the surrounding suburbs and are fairly cheap.

• Tasik Y. Man made recreation lake very popular with the locals. The nearby park is filled with locals relaxing and exercising. 

• Dataran Penggaram. The showpiece of the city with its unmistakable landmark (hammer, chisel and stone). The surrounding recreational park is also very popular with the locals. Easily seen from the mainroad of Jalan Rahmat, opposite the main Police Station.

• Minyak Beku. a sea side with a lighthouse nearby. you can enjoy the sea breeze and taste some tea or coffee at the "warung" (coffee house in Malay). There is a water well near the sea side. According to the elder people, the name of "Batu Pahat" are originate from this well, where the Troop from Thailand has created a water well within rocks at the sea side. 0.

• The Summit (高峰百利广场). A shopping complex, established in 1996, is popular among townfolks and also attracting Singaporean tourists for a stop-over shopping day tour on the weekends. Batu Pahat city 1st cinema company, GSC cinema is operated inside the shopping mall. Now the management of The Summit plans to build a 10 storey new wing for this shopping mall to compete with others new shopping mall which they set their business rapidly throughout this 2 years. 

• Carrefour (家乐福霸级市场). In September 2006, the French retail giant Carrefour invested a total of RM90 million to set up its latest chain of hypermarkets in Taman Flora Utama. This is the second Carrefour to be built in Johor, and the tenth in Malaysia. 

• Square One Shopping Mall. The Taman Flora Utama township grown rapidly and a new shopping mall, Square One is just beside Carrefour will be opened in coming December 2008. Batu Pahat city's 3rd cinema company, 2nd cineplex (biggest in Batu Pahat), MBO cinemaplex will operate inside the shopping mall. There are 8 theatres in the cineplex.

• One Stop (Located at Jalan Rahmat, Jalan Jenang and Taman Bukit Pasir). 

• Batu Pahat Mall (峇株巴辖广场). In January 2007, Batu Pahat Mall, a new hypermarket retail development, opened along the now burgeoning Jalan Kluang. This raised the profile of the surrounding area from a once squalid area of workshops, textile and apparel manufacturing to that of a commercial and retail area 4 km away from the city centre. Batu Pahat city 2nd cinema company, 1st cineplex, Big Box cineplex is operated inside the shopping mall since December 2008. There are 7 theaters in the cineplex! 

• The Store Supermarket (环球百货购物中心) (Located at Jalan Rugayah and in The Summit). 

• Pacific Hypermarket (太平洋霸级市场) (Located in Batu Pahat Mall). 

• Farson Supermarket (发盛百货购物中心) (Located at Jalan Rugayah). 

• Pasaraya Nirwana Maju. Opened at 30 June 2011, located at Jalan Ampuan intersect with Jalan Zamrud,(Taman Soga). 

• Jalan Penggaram. Colonial shophouses famous for it's textile goods and goldsmiths. Bargain suitcases, luggage and travel bag can be purchased here. 

Night markets

These famous night markets are a must to any visitor. Every night, stalls are set up along a small road selling all sorts from food, clothes, toys and shoes. The markets take place at a different location every day on a rotating basis.

Eat

Batu Pahat is fabulous for its food.

Malay food

1. Pisang goreng - only the original fried banana in batter along Jalan omar (warung tandan emas. It's unique taste come out when mixed with their delicious blend of kicap pedas (soy sauce).

2. Nasi Bariani - seen all around Malaysia, the Nasi Bariani Batu Pahat originates from here. There are plentiful shops around Batu Pahat selling them but the best allegedly is located across the Batu Pahat bridge opposite Putra Hospital. Alas, commercialisation has cause the quality to deteriorate.

Coffee shops

1. There are a few coffee shops selling delicious teatime cakes, toasts, half-boiled eggs and desserts.

Chinese food

1. Ah See Wanton Noodles - very famous among the locals. Small little shophouse beside the OCBC Bank.

2. Glutton (Hai Kee) Square - the main hawker centre in Batu Pahat rivalling Petaling Jaya's SS2. It's located along the riverbanks next to the Batu Pahat jetty custom. Famous foods - fried oyster omelette, prawn cakes, ais kachang, sambal grilled stingray, steamboat, fried carrot cake, etc.

3. Minyak Beku swimming pool - not a swimming pool anymore but a restaurant specialising in seafood steamboat.

4. Beef Noodles - a stall located at the hawker centre behind old Cheng Siu primary school (along Jalan Abu Bakar). The current hawker took over the business from his parents and has been around for more than 20 years. Its a pity that none of his offsprings are interested in taking over the old man's business.
