Belgaum is a district in Northwestern Karnataka.
Belgaum has been the focal point of a border dispute between the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. Both states claim Belgaum on linguistic grounds. Traditionally, most people spoke Kannada but the majority in the big cities spoke Marathi, which has resulted in regional tensions. However, the district itself is mostly peaceful with only an occasional and minor flare-up.
Belgaum is well connected by to other places of India. Belgaum lies in Karnataka at trijunction of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra states. Mumbai -Bangalore road known as National Highway 48 passes though Belagavi. This highway connects to many cities of Karnataka like Dharwad, Hubballi, Haveri, Davangere, Tumkur and also Kolhapur, Karad, Satara and Pune in Maharashtra state.Goa is connected to Belgaum by NH748 through Khanapur, Londa, Anmod and also by Karnataka state highway 54 and 31 through Chorla ghat. There is a deviation from Anmod to Belgaum via Hemmadaga but this road is closed at night as it passes through Bhimgad wildlife sanctuary and is scenic. Karnataka state highway connects to Chandangad, Amboli, Tilari in Maharashtra.
It is connected to Dharwad, Kolhapur, Miraj, Goa, Londa by trains run by Indian Railways. Belgaum, Khanapur, Londa, Gokak Road, Ghataprabha are major railway stations in the district.
There is an airport at Sambra, Belgaum with very limited services.
Shri Renuka YellammaTemple at Savadatti or Saundatti. Navilitheertha Dam or Renukasagar Reservoir is nearby to temple. Gokak waterfalls at Gokak.Hidkal dam across river Ghataprabha near Gokak. Godachinamalki waterfalls across Markandeya river.

Anmod- Hemmadaga- Khanapur Road is banned for traffic at night. Do not stop in midst of forests while travel.
