Bloemhof is an agricultural town of about 2,300 inhabitants (2012) on the banks of the Vaal River in North West Province.

Understand

[edit]

Bloemhof is a small community that was established by a farmer around 1864 during the time of the South African Republic, who named the community after his daughter's flower garden. It boasts a unique game reserve that encompasses a watery biome created by the dammed Vaal River.

The main activities are maize and cattle farming. Between Bloemhof and Christiana there are several salt pans where salt is harvested.
