Budaörs (for locals simply: Örs, German: Wudersch, Croatian: Jerša, Erša or Vundeš) is a town in Pest county, west of District 11th, Budapest metropolitan area. The town lies among the Buda and Csiki hills and the Tétény plateau in the Budaörs-basin. The City is splitted by M1, M7 motorway. As of 2014, Budaörs had a population of over 26500. By train

  • 1 Budaörs Railway Station (Budaörs vasutállomás), Raktár St. (Bus #288 terminated here. South of TESCO hypermarket). A small train station. Hourly departs train Budapest-Déli and Kelenföld (Budapest) stations. Opposite direction to Győr (two hourly, two hours) via Komárom (about seventy min), Tatabánya (forty min). Timetable. - Two beautiful and large sized Small-leaved linden (Tilia cordata) can be see before the Station, probably planted at the beginning of the 20th century.

By bus

  • Budapest's City bus lines #40, 40E, 87, 87A, 88, 140, 140A, 188E, 240E, 287, 287A connect Budaörs with different district of Buda and stop multiple times in the City.
  • From Budapest, Etele Square depart line #767 to Etyek and passing through the city center.
  • From Waldorf School of Budaörs (south of the rail) depart the line #756 to Százhalombatta via Érd and Törökbálint, also stop a couple times in Budaörs.
  • 2 'Lakótelep' bus terminal, Baross utca ~163 (Auchan hypermarket). Hourly depart a bus (#779) to Budakeszi. Budaörs citybus 288 and 289, and Budapest citybus lines #40, 40E, 140A, 140B, 240E, 287, 287A terminated here bus 140 pass it between Széll Kálmán tér (M2 metro station) and Törökbálint. - Ticket vending machine.   • 3 Budaörs, gas station bus stop, Garibaldi St (M7 motorway, close to elevated roundabout). Bus #272 between Újbuda, (Móricz Zsigmond körtér) and Törökbálint stop only here inside limit of Budaörs. Volánbusz suburban lines toward Érd and Biatorbágy #724, 732, 736, 760, 761, 762 also stop here. Also a couple long distance service, mostly you need to change the bus. Better option take a train or back to Budapest even if you travel opposite way.

Get around

  • Budaörs local bus lines #288 and 289. But also City buses (see above) can be usefull. Remember the basic Budapest season ticket are not available out of city limit of Budapest.

  • 1 Roman Catholic Church (Nepomuki Szent János templom), Budaörs, Templom tér 1 (Take bus #40, 88, 140, 140A, 240E,288, 289 to stop Templom tér), +36 23 440-414, fax: +36 23 440-414, . Masses: Apr-Sep M, Tu, W 8:00, Th, F, Sa 19:00, Su 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 19:00 (M, Tu, W only Apr, May, Sep). Parish office open weekday: 9:00-11:00 and 17:00-18:00. built between 1801-1810. Mixed architectural elements, mostly Baroque-style with some classicising details. The main altar has a Classicist character and shows Christ's death at the Calvary. The gracious carving of lime-tree pulpit depicts the Good Shepherd sowing seeds. The Baroque-style font of the apse was made in the 18th century. On the left wall are Baroque-style pictures of Saint George and Saint Cecile from 19th century. On the right-side wall can be see the Three Magi and the picture of the Holy Trinity. There are four fresco of the ceiling: John of Nepomuk, Saint Dominic, the ascension of Christ and Moses with the snake on the last fresco. 2 Statue of St. Wendel (Sculpture of Wendelin of Trier, Szent Vendel-szobor) (in the Catholic church garden). Standing on a bottom of approximately 2 m, this sandstone sculpture is approximately 1.5 m high. The saint's symbols include a bag by his side, a hat on the ground and a lying cattle by his feet. Free of charge.
  • 3 Kő-hegyi Chapel (Kő-hegyi kápolna), Felsősor utca off (Situated in the centre). Offers a great panorama to city, on a clear day can you see to South Buda. The chapel built by Ferenc Wendler in 1855. Here takes place open-air performances of Budaorsi Passion.
  • 4 Budaorsi Calvary (Budaörsi Kálvária), Kálvária tér? (At the foot of the Calvary hill). Calvary hill is a geyser cone of a regular shape. There is a small chapel built by Jakab Kreis in 1817.
  • 5 Old Cemetery and Csulits Chapel (Ótemető és Csulits-kápolna), Budaörs, Nefelejcs utca 22-26 (Take bus 288 to stop Nefelejcs utca and walk three hundred meter north or Take bus #40, 88, 140, 140A, 240E to stop Templom tér fifty meter further west turn north on Nefelejcs utca and walk about half km straight). National German Site. The abandoned graveyard contains graves from the period between the 18th and 20th centuries. The graves of similar types with tables (their material is sandstone, limestone, red limestone from Tardos and cast stone) provide a uniform appearance to the cemetery.-This chapel is situated at the centre of the Old Cemetery and was built in 1863 by János Csulits. A single-nave, single-tower building, with two windows. Now, this chapel is used by Greek Catholics for their ceremonies. Monument identifier: 1481
  • 6 Starentanz Chapel (Starentanz-kápolna), Farkasréti út ~87. (Bus 289 to stop Semmelweis utca fifty meter away or bus #40, 88, 140, 140A, 240E to stop Tulipán utca and walk north three blocks till Farkasréti út turn right and about hundred meter more). It was built in 1808. On the left side of the chapel, behind a large glass is a metre-high painting depicting the Emmaus Disciples. The painting was made in 1912.

Located in pleasant natural environment, western outskirts of Budaörs. After the excavation of an Árpád archaeological park reconstructed a part of the former town called 'Strip' (Csík). A pit house, furnaces, yurt village and contemporary botanical gardens can be see here. The yurt village offers a unique opportunity to rest Your own tent or eleven furnished yurt with half board (only for groups?). Other attractions: oven medieval inn, auditorium and media lab, Indian Village, Castle Theatre, grassy and sandy sports field, archery courts, playgrounds, swimming pool and a small fish pond.   • 8 Jakob Bleyer Museum of Local History (Bleyer Jakab Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény „Heimatmuseum” , Riedl Ferenc Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény), Budaörsi út 47. (Close to Mátyás király utca corner. Take bus #40, 88, 140, 140A, 240E to stop Aradi utca), +36 23 440-217, fax: +36 23 440-217, . Tu-F 14:00-18:00, Sa 10:00-18:00; Su 10:00-14:00. The Local History Collection located in a a typical local Swabian house. The house with porch and the courtyard section of the Museum are particularly beautiful, contemporary status was preserved. A museum which chronicles the history of the German settlers in Budaors. - Its five rooms used to be the home of a well-to-do farmer-bourgeois family. Shows the farmer-bourgeois life-style destroyed by the expelling in 1946. 9 St. John of Nepomuk Statue (Nepomuki Szent János-szobor, Neubaumati), Budaörs, Budapesti út 48 (The statue is located opposite the Local History Collection, Budapest út No. 47). The soft limestone, baroque St. John of Nepomuk statue was erected in 1852. HUF200 (2015).
  • 10 Urban Archaeology Exhibition (Városi Régészeti Kiállítás), Budaörs, Károly király utca 2 (Bus to 287 stop Baross utca or Take bus #40, 88, 140, 140A, 240E,287, 287A to stop Károly király utca. Walk to the nearby roundabout turn to south and take more fifty meters.), +36 23 415-428, fax: +36 23 415-428, . Tu-Su 10:00-16:00. Presentation of the most interesting and valuable pieces of Budaors Roman archaeological finds. Reconstructions and models to be seen. Lots of visual documentation and tactile exhibition material helps to understand the nearly 7,000 years history. Guided tours and view the exhibition: Free of charge.

  • 11 Painful Mother sculpture (Fájdalmas Szűz Mária Szobor), Szakály Mátyás utca 32 (Take bus #40, 88, 140, 140A, 240E to stop Templom tér. Turn north after forty meter walk is a roundabout turn right to uphill two hundred meters look on right side. Situated in front of the house at Szakály Mátyás Street #32.). 24/7. This 'Pietà' sculpture was erected in the 1920's. The lower part made in limestone base, made of cast stone and of an approximate height of one and half meter and the sculpture of an approximate height of one meter depicts Mary with the dead Christ. Free.
  • World War One Memorial arched stone bridge (Első világháborús emlékmű és Templom téri boltozott kőhíd), Templom tér. The dying soldier who failing into the arms of Christ title sculpture was set up in 1925 from public contributions. There are marble tables placed four sides of the monument, carved the names of men from Budaors, who died on Galician and Italian battlefields. - The arched stone bridge can be find opposite Templom Square: #11. - More monument buildings around Templom Square: #2, 3, 12, 13, 14, 15, 20. - Also here is a new monument the Sun-dial (2005). In the Rock carved spaces, terraces, steps, ruined walls. The combined is a architectural and military protection monument.
