Buttenheim is in Upper Franconia. Its main claim to fame is being the birthplace of Levi Strauß (born with the first name "Löb"; he later changed the spelling of his last name to Strauss) the inventor of the Blue Jeans and founder of the namesake company.
- 1 Levi-Strauss-Museum. The birth house of Levi Strauss has been turned into a museum showing both the conditions for poor rural Jews in 19th century Franconia in general (which ultimately triggered Levi's emigration) and the life of the inventor of Blue Jeans in particular.
