The town centre of Bowmanville, Clarington's largest community

Clarington is a municipality in the Durham region of the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. Located directly to the east of Oshawa, it is a partially-rural area which contains villages such as Newcastle and Bowmanville.

Get in

By rail, both VIA (intercity) and GO Transit (commuter) trains stop in nearby Oshawa. By freeway, the six-lane Ontario highway 401 connects Clarington to the rest of the Windsor-Quebec corridor. By bus, Coach Canada/Megabus express will stop in Whitby (Ontario), a west-end Oshawa suburb, on their way from Montréal to Toronto; one must then cross Oshawa to get back to Clarington.

The closest major airports serve Toronto, with Canada's largest airport (Malton, YYZ IATA) slightly west of the Toronto-Mississauga boundary. From Clarington, this means having to cross all of Oshawa and Toronto, time-consuming in peak traffic hours.
