Italiano: Non sono un esperto di comportamento animale e quindi non so se quanto è accaduto nel Parco Nazionale di Etosha si verifica normalmente e se la mia interpretazione è corretta ma ad ogni modo ciò che ho visto mi ha particolarmente stupito. Il 3 novembre 2015, mi sono fermato ad osservare gli animali che si erano radunati intorno ad una pozza artificiale. Due Leoni, un maschio ed una femmina presidiavano l'acqua mentre gnu, zebre, orici, struzzi e antilopi - apparentemente disposti secondo una priorità dettata dalla forza e dalla capacità di difesa - attendevano l'"autorizzazione" dei felini per avvicinare e bere. Trascorso un po' di tempo è arrivata una femmina di giraffa. Diversamente dagli altri animali la giraffa ha iniziato in modo evidente a "provocare" i leoni, passeggiando davanti a loro e non "rispettando" nè le distanze nè l'accesso all'acqua. Dopo alcuni segnali di insofferenza la leonessa che era a presidio della pozza d'acqua ha sferrato un primo attacco incurante della possibilità che la giraffa potesse in qualche modo difendersi. L'attacco si è concluso dopo pochi secondi ed i leoni sono tornati nuovamente a presidiare l'acqua. Ma diversamente da quanto credevo, la giraffa non ha deposto le armi e non ha accettato che fossero i leoni a stabilire le priorità nè che fossero loro a dover dare la concessione all'acqua. Dopo poco tempo è tornata, nuovamente con fare "provocatorio" a pochissima distanza dai leoni. E nuovamente, dopo poco, la leonessa ha nuovamente sferrato un secondo attacco fallendo però anche la seconda volta. Ciò che davanti ai miei occhi sembra essersi quindi consumata è stata una "ribellione", un tentativo di riportare "democrazia" all'interno di un luogo sacro che è appunto la risorsa d'acqua. Ripensando a quei momenti penso di non aver assistito "soltanto" a una "lotta per il territorio", a qualcosa di appartenente esclusivamente al mondo animale ma di aver assistito anche alla metafora della storia dell'uomo e della eterna lotta tra condivisione delle risorse e repressione per l'accaparramento della ricchezza.Purtroppo la storia, esattamente come la storia dell'uomo, non ha un epilogo felice. Nel pomeriggio, dopo essermi allontanato da quella zona e poi essere tornato, ho trovato quella stessa giraffa uccisa (non ho volutamente inserito la fotografia nella sequenza che però, insieme ad un più ampio numero di foto che descrivono quell'attacco, è reperibile nella galleria di immagini del mio account wiki commons)
English: I am not an expert in animal behavior and therefore I do not know if what happened in the Etosha National Park occurs normally and if my interpretation is correct but in any case what I saw particularly surprised me. On November 3, 2015, I stopped to observe the animals that had gathered around an artificial pool. Two lions, a male and a female guarded the water while wildebeests, zebras, oryxes, ostriches and antelopes - apparently arranged according to a priority dictated by strength and defense capacity - awaited the "authorization" of the felines to approach and drink. After some time a female giraffe arrived. Unlike the other animals, the giraffe has evidently begun to "provoke" the lions, walking in front of them and not "respecting" either distances or access to water. After some signs of impatience, the lioness who was guarding the pool of water launched a first attack regardless of the possibility that the giraffe could somehow defend itself. The attack ended after a few seconds and the lions returned to garrison the water again. But contrary to what I thought, the giraffe did not lay down its arms and did not accept that it was the lions that set the priorities or that it was they who had to give the concession to water. After a short time she is back, again in a "provocative" way at a very short distance from the lions. And again, after a while, the lioness again launched a second attack but failed also the second time. What before my eyes therefore seems to have taken place was a "rebellion", an attempt to bring "democracy" back into a sacred place which is precisely the resource of water. Thinking back to those moments I think I have not witnessed "only" a "struggle for the territory", to something belonging exclusively to the animal world but to have also witnessed the metaphor of the history of man and the eternal struggle between sharing resources and repression for the hoarding of wealth. Unfortunately, history, just like the history of man, does not have a happy ending. In the afternoon, after leaving that area and then returning, I found that same giraffe killed (I did not intentionally insert the photograph in the sequence which, however, together with a larger number of photos describing that attack, can be found in the gallery. of images from my wiki commons account)
