Summary

Description
English: The Dr. George B. Rosenfeld House, 501 Lebrun Road, Amherst, New York, August 2020. With a massive, eye-catching mono-pitched skillion roof perforated by a narrow chimney in the rear and some interesting diagonal lines introduced by the placement of the flat-roofed two-car garage at an odd angle at the end of the driveway, the Rosenfeld House is about as Midcentury Modern as residential architecture gets in Western New York. More interesting still is the varied composition and coloration of the façade: orange brick contrasting with sage green wooden slats in front, and mostly glass in the back, courtesy of a series of French doors and the floor-to-ceiling windows that look from the living and dining room. A grass walkway at the west end of the property, tucked under the cantilevered mass of the second-floor master suite, serves as a passage from the front to the back patio. At the time of the house's construction in 1960, Dr. George B. Rosenfeld (1916-2010) had just been named head of the Pediatrics Department at St. Joseph Intercommunity Hospital in Cheektowaga; he lived there until his death.
