Summary

Description
English: South West Trains EMU train 450 103 at Alton Station South West Trains took delivery of these Siemens Desiro Class 450 electric multiple unit trains from 2003 onwards. Although they operate by taking direct current from the third rail, they are designed to be converted, if required, to operate on 25Kv AC overhead supply, or to operate as dual voltage units. To do this they would require a pantograph but none of this class have been fitted with these so far. In the present economic climate it is unlikely that lines in the south west will be converted to run on overhead supply in the foreseeable future, as the cost would be enormous. Alton is the terminus of the service from London Waterloo, and this EMU will provide the return service to Waterloo.
