DescriptionTuam Cathedral of the Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary and the Four Evangelists by Michael O'Connor 2009 09 14.jpg
Tuam Cathedral of the Assumption, County Galway, Ireland
Upper part of the stained glass window in the chancel. This window was designed by Michael O'Connor of 80 Dame Street, Dublin, in 1832 for £240. The window was restored by the Abbey Stained Glass Studios in Dublin. The lowest shown row of lights depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary (middle window) and the Four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (from left to right). The next row of ten small lights show the coat of arms of families who helped to finance the cathedral. Among them were Bellew, Blake, Browne, Handcock, Kirwan, Newell, St. George, Shrewsbury, and others. One row of four small orange windows shows the year 1832. Please note that the lowest section of this window is not shown on this photograph as it is obscured by a screen which was erected in 1992.
