Get in

By plane

Fort Chipewyan Airport has several flights daily to Fort McMurray.

By Car

Travel by car to Fort Chip is permitted only in winter. This is due to the fact that you cross the Peace-Athabasca River Delta, and Lake Athabasca. There are also many ice bridges.

A word of caution: When crossing ice bridges (river crossings). GO THE SPEED LIMIT!!! This is because, if you go too fast, you can create an underwater wave which can travel ahead of you. This can break the ice once it reaches the other shore.

There are no services between Syncrudes Aurora Mine turnoff, and Fort Chip, so make sure you gas up in Fort Mac.
