PS Waverley at Gourock

Gourock is a town and ferry port on the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. Most visitors to the town will be travelling onwards by sea to Dunoon and Argyll.

Gourock from Lyle Hill

By Road

Follow the M8 westbound from Glasgow to its end where it becomes the A8, continue through Greenock to Gourock. From the south west, follow the A78 along the Ayrshire coast.

By Rail

3 trains per hour from Glasgow Central to Gourock.

By Ferry

Passenger ferries to Dunoon run about twice per hour (once per hour on Sundays) [1].

Car ferries to Dunoon run from McInroy's Point in Gourock up to 4 times per hour [2]

Passenger Ferries connect Gourock with Kilcreggan (10 per day) [3].

  • Granny Kempock (above Kempock Street). A megalithic stone. Local tradition states that walking 7 times around the stone brings good luck - particularly for sailors about to embark on long voyages, and couples about to tie the knot.

  • Gourock Outdoor Swimming Pool, Albert Road, Gourock, +44 1475 631561. Open April to September. One of the last remaining outdoor pools in Scotland, this is a heated saltwater pool, overlooking the Firth of Clyde, with tremendous views of the Argyll hills across the water. Adults £2.90, OAPs £1.40, Children £2.40.

Caledonian MacBrayne and Western Ferries both offer car ferry services to Dunoon. The CalMac terminal is next to the railway station, while Western run from McInroys Point, a couple of miles to the west. SPT run a passenger-only ferry to Kilcreggan.
