Kroměříž Marketplace and Archbishops Palace

Kroměříž is a city in South Moravia, Czech Republic. Kroměříž stands on the site of an earlier ford across the River Morava, at the foot of the Chriby mountain range which dominates the central part of Moravia.

Get in

Kroměříž has a train station a small way from the centre of town. Trains run indirectly to Olomouc (1hr) and Brno (1hr 15m- 2h 30m) mostly requirng changes at Hulín or Kojetín.

Buses run direct to Brno (1hr15m).

Flower Garden
  • The Archbishops Palace is situated just off of the main square it is an interesting example of the European Baroque Palace and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is only accessible via a guided tour, mostly in Czech though other languages can be arranged. The interior was used during the filming of the film Amadeus. Highlights are the Assembly Hall and the Library.
  • The Gardens behind the Palace are laid out in the English style and provide a nice place for a walk.
  • The Flower Garden was built by Italian architects, Filibert Luches and Giovanni Pietro Tencalla. It is an Italian garden with paths surrounded by high bushes and was built on the area of 10 hectares. The Central building is very impressive and worthy of a look.
