Negros is an island in the Philippines, located west of Cebu Island and south of Panay.
Negros is split into two provinces:
- Negros Occidental - the northwestern part of the island, with its capital at Bacolod.
- Negros Oriental - the southeastern part of the island, with its capital at Dumaguete.
Both the Philippine Government and Wikivoyage include these provinces in different regions. Negros Occidental is in the Western Visayas (Region VI) while Negros Oriental is in the Central Visayas (Region VII).
Negros is the fourth largest island in the country at over 13,300 km2 or 5,100 mi2. Both Luzon (main island of the north) and Mindanao (main island of the south) are much larger, while third place Samar (in the Eastern Visayas) and fifth place Palawan (off to the west) are fairly close to Negros in size. Total population as of the 2010 census was just shy of 4.2 million.
Small island provinces nearby are Guimaras, in the strait between Negros and Panay, and Siquijor, off the southeast tip of Negros near Dumaguete.
