Neiva is situated in the zone of influence of guerrilla movements like FARC-EP. In 2011 the city has been hit by a number of bomb attacks,[1] which authorities attribute to urban militias of the FARC and other armed groups active in the city. The U.S. and Australian State Departments advises against all non-essential travel to Neiva and the Huila department at large.
+As of June/2014, this no longer appears to be the case. As always, research the current situation ahead of time.
