Rail travel in Africa
Africa has one of the most extensive railway networks in the world. Many of the railways were built during the colonial era, and priority is given to freight rather than passengers in some of the less developed nations, due to the vast amount mineral wealth that needs to be moved around. There are many steam locomotives still in use in some of these nations. In recent years there has been a renaissance of sorts and countries such as Morocco are even in the process of building European style high speed rail lines.
