For the treaty, see Schengen Agreement.

Schengen is a village in far south-eastern Luxembourg near the tripoint where the borders of Germany, France, and Luxembourg meet. Schengen is known because Schengen Agreement was signed here in 1985.

Get in

From City of Luxembourg, it's possible to reach Schengen by public transport in just under an hour. Catch Bus 175 towards Remich and disembark at "Mondorf - Christophorus". From that stop, it is possible to catch the connecting Bus 185 towards Remich which stops in Schengen. The buses are timed to connect, with a transfer time of 5 minutes, although the latter bus will wait if the former is running late. Bus 185 runs hourly throughout the week.

Get around

See

  • European Museum. This museum was opened in 2010, 25 years after the signing of the Schengen Treaty, in the building "Centre Européen".
  • Schengen Castle. Dating from 1390 but almost completely rebuilt in the 19th century, it is now a hotel and conference centre.
  • A piece of the Berlin Wall has been put up to honor the "borderless" Europe that originated here.
a piece of the Berlin wall, looking pretty much like it did in 1989
